On October 25th, the Chinese Language Teaching Center hosted a unique cultural experience course on campus, offering international students an in-depth exploration of Taiwan's distinctive Hakka culture. The event featured activities such as an introduction to Hakka culture, an explanation of Chinese characters, and oil-paper umbrella painting. Students had the chance to design and create their own miniature oil-paper umbrellas, leaving them with one-of-a-kind memories.
The course invited Ms. Luo Ci-ying from Meinong Original Homeland Oil-Paper Umbrella Cultural Village as the guest instructor. Ms. Luo provided a comprehensive introduction to this traditional craft, covering the historical background, materials used, and the manual production process of oil-paper umbrellas. Her engaging explanations and live demonstrations not only showcased the artistic and technical aspects of oil-paper umbrellas but also highlighted their rich cultural significance.
On the day of the event, students were deeply focused as they painted their umbrellas, expressing their individual styles and creativity through their designs. The course was not just a hands-on art workshop but also a cultural exchange, allowing students from different countries to experience the profound charm of Taiwan's Hakka culture through hands-on creation.
