為執行教育部113年「大專校院外國學生華語文能力精進計畫」策略六:成立華語學伴制度,本校國際學院華語教學中心和國際事務處國際學生組積極推動語言交流與文化互動的制度化實踐。透過華語學伴制度,外籍學生得以提升中文能力、適應臺灣生活;而本地學生則在陪伴的過程中,拓展國際視野與跨文化理解力,實踐雙向學習與成長。

中心於418日舉辦「跨文化的語言學伴:如何用華語打開另一扇世界之窗」專題講座,邀請國立臺灣藝術大學王詩評老師主講,深入分享語言學伴制度的核心價值與實踐技巧。講座以真實生活情境出發,涵蓋協助國際學生在早餐店點餐、解釋文化用語如「紅包」、「面子」,以及如何處理文化衝突與價值差異等,帶領學生深入理解「學語言」其實也是在「學文化」。

王老師指出:「華語學伴制度不是語法補習班,也不是單向教學,而是一段雙向陪伴、共同成長的跨文化旅程。」在這段旅程中,學生不僅是語言的學習者與協助者,更是彼此文化探索與價值交流的同行者。

活動中特別設計「文化理解小測驗」與「即興華語對話挑戰」,讓學生練習如何以簡單清楚的中文,描述抽象文化概念,並學習用開放式提問、視覺輔助、情境舉例等方式進行文化翻譯,強化跨文化溝通的敏感度與包容力。

講座也分享了一段真實的故事:來自印尼的學生 Ying Ying 曾因緊張又不太清楚正確詞語,把「蛋花湯」講成了「蛋飯」,結果收到了一盤蛋炒飯,當下困惑不已。幸好她的學伴在旁協助,陪她與店家重新溝通,並教她如何完整表達自己的需求。Ying Ying 後來說:「我學到的不只是那句話,而是怎麼面對錯誤,還有,有人陪著你一起學,就不會那麼害怕。」

此外,王老師也分享了過去處理學生之間文化誤解和衝突的寶貴經驗,提醒大家在進行跨文化交流時,應秉持開放、尊重與互惠的態度,並特別強調建立安全意識與信任關係在國際友誼中的重要性。本次講座內容豐富實用,現場互動熱烈,為師生帶來深刻的啟發與行動指南。本中心特別感謝王老師慷慨提供講座簡報,讓無法親臨現場的學生們亦能受惠其中。(附檔簡報內容已獲王詩評老師同意,授權分享於國立屏東大學,供教學與學習交流之用。)

本中心將持續拓展國際友善校園,深化語言與文化教育資源,讓每一位外籍華語生在學習中文的同時,也能感受到理解與陪伴的力量;而每一位本地學伴,也將在跨文化的旅程中,看見更廣闊的世界。

📢 Cross-Cultural Language Buddies: Using Chinese to Open a Window to the World and Transform the Way We Learn and Connect 📢

To implement Strategy 6 of the Ministry of Education’s 2024 “Chinese Language Proficiency Enhancement Program for International Students in Universities and Colleges”—the establishment of a Language Partner System—our university’s College of International Studies’ Chinese Language Center, in collaboration with the Office of International Affairs’ International Student Section, is actively promoting a structured approach to language exchange and cultural interaction.

Through the Language Partner System, international students can improve their Chinese language proficiency and adapt to life in Taiwan, while local students expand their global perspectives and intercultural understanding by participating in mutual learning and growth.

On April 18, the Center held a special lecture titled “Cross-Cultural Language Partnering: Using Chinese to Open a New Window to the World,” featuring Professor Shih-Ping Wang from National Taiwan University of Arts. She provided in-depth insights into the core values and practical techniques of the Language Partner System. The lecture explored real-life scenarios such as ordering food at a breakfast shop, explaining cultural terms like “red envelope” and “face,” and handling cultural conflicts and value differences—highlighting that learning a language is essentially learning a culture.

Professor Wang emphasized, “The Chinese Language Partner System is not a grammar cram school or one-way teaching. It’s a journey of mutual companionship and intercultural growth.” In this journey, students are not only language learners and supporters but also fellow explorers of one another’s cultures and values.

The event featured interactive activities such as a “Cultural Understanding Quiz” and an “Improvised Chinese Conversation Challenge,” encouraging students to practice using clear, simple Chinese to express abstract cultural concepts. They also learned how to conduct cultural interpretation through open-ended questions, visual aids, and situational examples, enhancing their sensitivity and inclusiveness in cross-cultural communication.

One memorable story shared during the lecture involved a student from Indonesia, Ying Ying, who nervously ordered “egg… rice” instead of “egg drop soup,” resulting in a plate of fried rice and great confusion. Fortunately, her language partner stepped in, helped her communicate with the shop owner, and taught her how to express her needs clearly. Ying Ying later said, “I didn’t just learn the phrase—I learned how to deal with mistakes. When someone is there learning with you, it’s not so scary.”

Professor Wang also shared valuable experiences in handling cultural misunderstandings and conflicts between students. She reminded everyone to approach cross-cultural interactions with openness, respect, and reciprocity, and emphasized the importance of building trust and a sense of safety in international friendships. The lecture was rich in content and full of engaging interactions, offering inspiration and practical guidance for both teachers and students. We extend our special thanks to Professor Wang for generously sharing her presentation slides, which will be made available to students who could not attend the event in person.

Our Chinese Language Center will continue to foster a globally friendly campus and enrich resources in language and cultural education, so that every international Chinese language learner not only improves their Chinese but also experiences empathy and support. At the same time, every local language partner will gain a broader worldview through this cross-cultural journey.
