To implement the Ministry of Education’s 2024 “Chinese Language Proficiency Enhancement Program for International Students in Universities,” the Chinese Language Center of the International College, in collaboration with the College of Computer Science, hosted the event “Language and Technology Journey —AR/VR Experience” on April 28, 2025. This event guided international students into the immersive world of technology, enhancing their Chinese proficiency through interactive experiences and broadening the multicultural dimensions of their learning.

The event began with a warm welcome from Dean Chia-Ho Ou of the College of Computer Science and Director Lan-Fen Huang of the Chinese Language Center. Associate Dean Wen-Chih Chang gave a comprehensive introduction to advanced AR (Augmented Reality) and VR (Virtual Reality) technologies, and thoughtfully designed a series of engaging experiences to help students improve their Chinese comprehension and communication skills in an immersive environment.

Highlights of the event included:

  • AR Aquarium
  • VR Racing
  • 9D Dynamic Dual Egg Seats
  • 5D Dynamic Motorcycle
  • VR Bicycle
  • Floor Projection Interactive System

While exploring these technologies, students were required to describe, discuss, and complete missions using Chinese, integrating language learning into contextual interaction, and enhancing real-time language application. By using technology to prompt language output, students not only improved their speaking skills but also built intercultural understanding and confidence through laughter and challenges.

The event was funded by the Ministry of Education and supported administratively by Ms. Wei-Ling Chiu from the College of Computer Science, whose assistance ensured a smooth and successful experience. Student feedback indicated that the event not only helped them learn new vocabulary and expressions but also significantly improved their ability to communicate in Chinese through real-world interactions. It was a memorable and educational journey through language and technology.

Looking ahead, the Chinese Language Center will continue to integrate technology and educational resources to promote more innovative language-learning activities. These efforts aim to help students from around the world experience the joy of language learning and the power of technology in Taiwan, using Chinese as a bridge to foster intercultural understanding and global connections.
