NPTU × Rotary RYE: Empowering Global Youth Through Mandarin and Culture
A Diverse Mandarin Learning Journey in Pingtung, Taiwan

國立屏東大學國際學院華語教學中心自112年起與扶輪社3510地區展開合作，今年已邁入第三年。2025年再度參與Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE)青少年交換計畫，迎接來自泰國、美國、巴西、阿根廷及印度的七位學員，展開為期四個月的華語學習與文化探索之旅。
Since 2023, the Chinese Language Center (CLC) at National Pingtung University (NPTU) has collaborated with Rotary International District 3510 to promote international exchange and Mandarin education. Entering its third year of partnership, our center once again joins the Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE) program in 2025, welcoming seven exchange students from Thailand, the United States, Brazil, Argentina, and India to embark on a four-month journey of Mandarin learning and cultural exploration in Pingtung.

今年9月8日的開課典禮，陳永森校長致詞指出，屏東大學長年積極推動國際合作，已有逾200名學生前往美國、加拿大及西歐等國進行交流。他期許交換學員以華語為橋樑，開啟多元的跨文化體驗。國際事務長陳皇州教授亦親自致贈歡迎禮，象徵學習新篇章的開啟，並鼓勵學員在屏東不僅學好中文，更能留下深刻而美好的回憶。
At the opening ceremony on September 8, NPTU President Dr. Yung-Sen Chen highlighted the university's long-term commitment to international collaboration. Over the years, more than 200 NPTU students have participated in exchange programs across the United States, Canada, and Western Europe. President Chen encouraged the RYE students to use Mandarin as a bridge to broaden their cross-cultural perspectives and to embrace the richness of cultural diversity. Vice President for International Affairs, Prof. Huang-Chou Chen, personally presented welcome gifts to the students, symbolizing the opening of a new chapter in their learning journey. He expressed his hope that the students would not only make steady progress in Mandarin, but also build meaningful and lasting memories during their time in Pingtung.

華語教學中心主任劉建志表示，中心除專注語言教學外，更積極結合校內資源規劃多元課程。今年更與資訊學院合作推出AR、VR沉浸式華語體驗，並攜手原住民族學生資源中心安排原民文化課程，讓學員在科技與文化交融中學習華語，從語言延伸至文化，全方位認識屏東。
Director Chien-Chih Liu of the Chinese Language Center emphasized that the CLC is dedicated not only to language instruction but also to the integration of NPTU's campus resources to create diverse and innovative programs. This year, the center collaborated with the College of Information Technology to launch AR and VR immersive Mandarin experiences, and partnered with the Indigenous Students Resource Center to introduce indigenous cultural courses. Through these initiatives, students can explore Mandarin learning through both technology and culture, gaining a comprehensive understanding of Pingtung and Taiwan.

國際扶輪3510地區總監邱綉惠（D.G. Susan）、主委黃聖忠（P.P. Gem）、副主委蔡爵如（P.P. Lawrence）及委員曾明俐（P.P. Angela）親臨致賀，展現扶輪社對華語教育與國際交流的重視。黃聖忠主委勉勵學員把握在臺的寶貴時光，勇於挑戰自我，在語言與文化探索中汲取樂趣。
The ceremony was also attended by D.G. Susan, P.P. Gem, P.P. Lawrence, and P.P. Angela, who all expressed their support for Mandarin education and cultural exchange. P.P. Gem encouraged the students to make the most of their time in Taiwan, to challenge themselves, and to find joy in the process of language and cultural learning.

未來學員將在專業師資與教學助理的協助下，循序精進聽、說、讀、寫能力，並透過生活體驗深入融入臺灣社會，深化對華語及在地文化的理解，讓RYE學員能在這段學習旅程中，不僅提升華語能力、拓展國際視野，更能透過結合本校及屏東特色的課程，創造專屬於自己的獨特回憶。
In the months ahead, under the guidance of NPTU's professional instructors and teaching assistants, the students will steadily enhance their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills while engaging deeply with local life and culture. Through this program, RYE students are expected to develop both linguistic competence and cultural insight, expanding their global perspectives and creating unique, unforgettable memories rooted in Pingtung's local charm and NPTU's educational spirit.
